What the Pause and Connect Back-and-Forth Journal Can Do for You and Your Child

The Pause and Connect Journal was born because I felt my connection with one of my children slipping away. She's a more introverted child, and I couldn't figure out what was going on in her head.

And it worried me. She had outbursts that came out of nowhere, and I was scratching my head, because I just didn't get what made her tick.

So I created a journal for us to ask and answer questions of each other. I was immediately blown away by the depth of her thoughts; she knew herself and she could tell me all about her thoughts on paper.

I was so grateful to "meet" my child in this deeper way, and with the newfound knowledge the journal entries provided about her, it didn't take long for me to figure out better ways of communicating with her in person too.

On a whim, I tried the journal with my talkative child, and found out more about her too! It seemed that without the pressure of face-to-face, both personalities allowed themselves to open up to me in deeper ways.

It was almost like magic, and I so want you to experience that parenting magic too!

Chances are, you're worried about something to do with your child. And chances are, knowing more about your child will help you find unique, tailor-designed solutions. Hear from Moms Who Have Tried the Back-and-Forth Journal

“I felt closer to my child. I understood some of the feelings they have that I never would have guessed they felt because they never expressed them vocally. It was a fun game for one of my children and made them feel important and special to have this journal that we were building together."
— Rachael C., Utah mom
“My daughter was more enthusiastic about the journal than I imagined she would be. She seemed surprised to learn that I am vulnerable also and also have things that scare me. She knows through my responses that grown-ups aren't perfect and that we have similar concerns. Sharing these questions and answers has been a gateway to a stronger and deeper bond."
— C.C., Connecticut mom

“The connection gap between a hard-to-talk-to child and a parent really narrows down when using the journal. It is that one little tool that as a parent allows you to get into your child's head and finally see what's happening 'out there' without being thought of as 'pushy.' I didn't know I could get so much information by just asking a question in writing!"
— Indi N., Utah mom

"My goal with the journal was to deepen my connection with each of my children in a new and fun way. That happened, and it was so fun to interact with my kids and get to know them on different levels better.  They also learned more about me, and I could tell they felt closer to me and special.
There were also surprises that resulted from these journals that benefited our family. For one daughter, I was really able to hone in on what goals and activities she valued most in her life. This made it so we could choose an extracurricular activity that brought her a lot of joy and fulfillment. For another daughter, I was able to see what really stressed her out and caused her anxiety. This made it so I knew better how to help teach her how to calm herself down. For another daughter, it made me aware of a self-esteem issue that we could then work on together. And for my last daughter, it showed me more of who she really is in different parts of her personality.
The journals were a huge success in strengthening and building our family unit, the relationships between us, and each child individually."
— Vanessa B., South Carolina mom
